About Burleigh

How the patterns are made

Burleigh uses tissue transfer, a method no other pottery in the world still practises. Designs are printed from engraved copper rollers onto thin tissue paper, which is then applied to each piece by hand. The method is slow, but it gives the crisp, detailed patterns that Burleigh is known for. Every piece comes from Middleport Pottery, the firm's base in Stoke-on-Trent.

Patterns and pieces

Asiatic Pheasants dates from 1862 and remains the classic choice. Calico draws on Victorian indigo fabrics, and Regal Peacock caught the eye of Queen Mary in 1913. Some patterns come in more than one colourway. Pieces include dinner and side plates, bowls, serving dishes, teacups and saucers, coffee cups, mugs, teapots, jugs, sugar bowls and cake stands.
