Office Secret Santa gifts

The office gift exchange has its own rules: nothing too personal, nothing that'll embarrass anyone. These are the safe-but-thoughtful picks that work for a colleague you barely know — all price-compared.

Tip: Desk-friendly and consumable wins at work: nice coffee, a good notebook, a plant. Avoid anything that needs a sense of humour you can't verify.

The office rules

Office Secret Santa is about including everyone without making anyone uncomfortable. The safest gifts are useful, consumable or desk-friendly: a good mug, a notebook, decent coffee or tea, a small plant or a desk organiser.

What to avoid

Steer clear of anything personal — clothing, strongly scented toiletries, anything that comments on someone's looks or habits — and alcohol unless you know they drink. Jokes that only work if you know someone well rarely work at work. If you'd be uncomfortable watching them open it in front of your manager, don't buy it.

Budgets and timing

Most UK offices set somewhere between £5 and £15. Set a cut-off for joining and draw names at least two weeks before the exchange so people working from home have time for delivery, and put the time and place of the handover in the exchange details so nobody has to ask.

Keeping it fair

Use households in our generator to stop colleagues who live together drawing each other, and let everyone add a wishlist so whoever draws the new starter isn't guessing.

How we pick

We rank by how many shops stock each item — a far better signal of a genuinely good gift than a headline discount, which is the easiest number to fake. Every price is the lowest we can find across the shops that sell it, and we send you straight to that shop. We never take payment to rank something higher.
