The Body Shop
The Body Shop was founded by Anita Roddick in 1976 and is still one of the best-known British beauty names. It makes its own skincare, body care, haircare, makeup and fragrance, all vegan and cruelty-free. Ingredients such as shea, hemp, tea tree and vitamin E run through the ranges. You can buy online, in its high-street stores, or order online and collect.

Ranges worth knowing
On the body care side, expect scrubs, shower gels, hand creams and body butters. Facial skincare covers cleansers, toners, moisturisers, serums and masks for oily, dry, sensitive and normal skin. Haircare includes the Ginger Anti-Dandruff shampoo, and there is makeup and fragrance as well. Many products also make easy gifts.
The ethics side
The company has opposed animal testing since 1989 and holds Leaping Bunny certification. It is also B Corp certified. Through community fair trade it aims to source ingredients ethically and share the benefit with local communities. Many stores have refill stations plus a recycling scheme for empties.
