Newspapers
Newspapers.com is a subscription website for reading old newspapers online. Owned by Ancestry, it holds more than a billion scanned pages from over 30,000 titles. The titles span the United States and further afield, with British regional papers among them. Family historians use it to find obituaries and wedding notices, while others browse for local history, old match reports or vintage adverts.

About Newspapers
What the archive holds
The pages go well beyond front-page headlines. Expect national and local news, sport, society columns, comics and advertising. Birth, marriage and death notices are there too, which is what makes it so handy for tracing relatives. British coverage includes papers from London, Birmingham, Coventry and South Wales. If your research centres on one town, search for its paper before you sign up.
Tools for research
Pages open in an online viewer built for browsing and searching. Anything useful can be clipped, either as a single article or a full page. Clippings can be saved, printed or shared with relatives. You can also follow individual newspapers to keep up with fresh material as it is added.
Plans, trial and payment
Access is by subscription, billed monthly or yearly. A 14-day free trial lets you test the search before paying, and you can cancel whenever you like. Visa, Mastercard and PayPal are accepted. Gift subscriptions are sold too, which suits anyone shopping for a keen genealogist. Help is available by phone and by email.
