International Drivers Association
International Drivers Association sells International Driving Permits online to UK drivers heading abroad. An IDP translates your licence for traffic authorities and car hire firms overseas. This one comes as both a digital copy and a printed booklet. It suits holidaymakers renting a car, business travellers and anyone planning a longer stay where a translation is required.
About International Drivers Association
How it works
The online form takes under two minutes. You upload your UK driving licence, which must be valid, plus an ID photo. A digital permit then arrives by email about 8 minutes later. A physical booklet and card follow by post to your home address. A free English ID card is included, which can help where English is not widely spoken.
Important to understand
The permit isn't issued by a government, and it doesn't replace your licence. It follows the 1949 Geneva Convention format. You carry it alongside your original licence in countries that recognise that format, of which there are more than 189. Not every country accepts the digital version, so check with the traffic authority at your destination before relying on it.
Guarantees and support
If the permit is refused, a full refund applies. A three-year money-back guarantee also covers refusal by car rental companies or traffic authorities. Replacements are free and unlimited. Support runs around the clock and is handled by real people rather than a chatbot. Payment is by Visa, Mastercard or PayPal.
