The Best Time of Year to Buy (TVs, Mattresses, Laptops & More)
Patience is an underrated money-saver. Most big purchases have a predictable cheapest window — usually when a new model lands, or when a category goes on seasonal clearance. Buy then, and you pay a fraction of the launch price for nearly the same thing.
Quick reference
- TVs — Black Friday (late November) and the run-up to spring, when new models push last year's down.
- Laptops — Black Friday and back-to-school (late August), plus when new ranges launch.
- Mattresses — bank holiday weekends and Black Friday; this category is almost always "on sale", so compare hard.
- Large appliances — late spring (new-model season) and Black Friday.
- Furniture — January and summer clearance.
- Fitness gear — January (resolutions) and the post-summer lull.
The principle behind all of it
Prices fall when demand dips or newer stock arrives. If you can wait for the window — and compare across shops when it opens — you'll routinely pay 20–40% less for essentially the same product.
