BookKind

BookKind is a UK online bookshop with a charitable twist. A tenth of each order's full value goes to a cause the shopper selects when paying, not just a slice of profit. It launched in June 2025 under Monwell Limited, an independent online retailer that runs newspaper-branded bookshops too. The catalogue has more than 200,000 titles.

About BookKind

Books on the shelves

Fiction fans can browse manga and graphic novels, fantasy romance, horror, thrillers, crime and historical stories. On the non-fiction side, there is travel, sport, nature, cookery, history and life stories. Children are well served too, from first books for babies and toddlers through picture books to fiction and reference for older kids. Literary Review recommendations and the Booker Prize shortlist get their own sections, and there are literary gifts as well.

Choosing a cause

Buyers pick from 11 partner charities when they pay. The list includes Surfers Against Sewage, Maggie's, War Child UK, Dementia UK, the RHS, Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity and the Booker Prize Foundation. Books are sent in packaging that can be fully recycled.

Postage and returns

Royal Mail handles all UK deliveries. Standard postage is £2.99 for in-stock books, arriving in three to five working days, and is free once the basket passes £25. Paying £3.99 for premium service gets books there the following working day, as long as the order goes in by 2pm. Overseas postage depends on the country, with Ireland at £8 for parcels up to 1kg. Unused books can be returned within 28 days, with the buyer covering return postage. Gift cards are not sold at the moment.

BookKind FAQs

How does the charity donation work?

When paying, the shopper picks one of 11 partner charities. BookKind then passes on 10% of the order's full value to that cause, rather than a share of profit.

Can I return a book?

Yes, within 28 days of purchase if it is unused. The customer pays return postage, and the refund follows once the book is back. Faulty or damaged copies are sorted via [email protected].

Who is behind BookKind?

Monwell Limited runs it. Sara Montgomery, Monwell's co-founder, is its chief executive. The firm has twice been in the running for the British Book Awards' Book Retailer of the Year.

Does BookKind post overseas?

Yes, with charges set by country. A parcel of up to 1kg costs £7.50 to France or £8 to Ireland, rising to £16.50 for Australia and New Zealand.
