BBC Maestro

Learning from famous names is the idea behind BBC Maestro, an online course platform that launched in 2020. Run by Maestro Media Ltd under licence from BBC Studios Distribution, it sells video courses on writing, business, wellness, cooking and the arts. There is nothing to post: lessons open straight after purchase and can be downloaded in the app. It suits self-paced learners who enjoy watching an expert explain their craft.

About BBC Maestro

Who teaches what

The tutor list is the main draw. Isabel Allende covers storytelling, Steven Bartlett talks through growing a company and Jo Malone CBE shares how she thinks about entrepreneurship. Dr Rangan Chatterjee and Professor Tim Spector take on health and food. Owen O'Kane tackles anxiety, Evy Poumpouras teaches influence and Marina Abramović explores presence. Other subjects stretch into film and TV, theatre, music, art and design, and home and lifestyle. Each course pairs HD video lessons with workbooks and exercises, so it rewards people who do the tasks rather than just watching.

One course or the whole library

There are two ways to buy. A single course suits someone with one subject in mind, while an annual subscription opens every course on the platform. Gift cards are sold for presents. Reduced pricing is available to students, NHS staff and eligible members of the military. Students apply by emailing the support team from their student account.

Refunds and payment

Because the product is digital, refunds work differently from a physical shop. BBC Maestro's terms suggest a refund may be possible within a set period if a course hasn't been substantially watched. Check them before pressing play. Visa, Mastercard, PayPal and Apple Pay are all accepted.
