What you can book
Most trips start with a coach pick-up close to home, and the Pickup Finder on the website shows which stops serve each tour. Destinations cover English regions such as Yorkshire, the North East and the South West, plus Scotland, Wales, Ireland and Jersey. Beyond the classic tours, the range takes in weekend escapes, Royal Breaks, mystery breaks, special-event trips and group bookings.
Rooms are often in one of the group's 25 hotels, once branded Leisureplex and now trading as Alfa Hotels. Examples include the Derwentwater in Keswick and the Norfolk Royale in Bournemouth. Gift cards are available as well.
Paying and packing
A seat is secured with a £50 per person deposit that cannot be refunded, and the remainder falls due 42 days ahead of travel. Every booking needs either Alfa's Peace of Mind Guarantee or the traveller's own travel insurance. Tickets come through the post a week to ten days before the trip. Pick-up times are occasionally changed, so check the ticket before setting off. Pack one medium case of no more than 20kg, because extra weight is charged at £5 a kilo, payable at the hotel.
If plans change
Cancelling early costs just the deposit. Later cancellations cost 40% of the price at 42 to 29 days out. The charge then rises in steps to the full amount in the final week. Altering a booking costs £20 per person each time, or £40 once departure is 42 days or less away. Direct bookings are covered by two bonding schemes, Bonded Coach Holidays and ABTOT, with customers' money kept in trust until they get home.
